Come enjoy a glass of wine and a talk on the oft-humorous life of Santa Barbara’s Foodies at the turn of the 20th century. Just in time for Thanksgiving, historian Hattie Beresford will explore the beginnings of “gourmet grub” in Santa Barbara.
In Nineteenth Century Santa Barbara, some civic leaders felt that restaurants and Chinese cooks signaled the downfall of civilization. Many women disagreed. The more cosmopolitan of the populace, however, longed for a really fine restaurant, and a hapless French chef named Lucien Abadie tried his best to woo a clientele away from the scurrilous oyster saloons.
No reservation needed, but space will be limited so arrive early and order a glass of wine!
