The Historic Lobero Theatre
Join us for a talk by Brett Hodges
Wednesday, April 17
5:30 PM
Location: Museum
It was a red-letter day in the history of Santa Barbara when the new Lobero Theatre opened in August 1924. Designed by two of the community's most notable architects, George Washington Smith and Lutah Maria Riggs, the theatre's design furthered the move to give the city's downtown a unified architectural look using variants of the Spanish Colonial revival style.
The Lobero soon became a centerpiece of the city's vibrant cultural life offering theater, concerts and other entertainment. Launching the inauguration of the theater was the city's first Old Spanish Days Fiesta which has become Santa Barbara's largest civic celebration. Today, the Lobero remains at the heart of Santa Barbara's rich cultural heritage.
